Capacity building for sustainable tourism development remains a major concern in many developing countries including the Commonwealth. As such, addressing public sector capacity building remains an urgent priority.

The Commonwealth members have agreed that capacity building for innovation in its countries is a vital factor in developing long-term sustainability. CTC aims to provide a rationale for that capacity building, based on detailed strategies to achieve practical outcomes in identified areas. It includes a background and context for this cooperative venture.

CTC believes in ensuring an effective system for continuous capacity building by coordinating and funding a targeted development platform. This will enhance the capacity of cooperative venture participants, their stakeholders and other organisations to effect change by:

  • Facilitating R&D in key areas identified by the cooperative venture
  • Providing a forum for members and stakeholders 
  • Promoting the benefits of capacity building in managing change.

It is, in this regard, CTC has been entrusted to facilitate in enhancing capacity building for sustainable tourism and quality services as one of its core activities.

As an initial step towards capacity building initiative, CTC is currently offering a training course on Policies & Strategies for Sustainable Tourism Development: the Malaysian Experience. 

CTC conducts training programmes in:

  • Practical training course for Eco-Tourism Planning & Management
  • Training of Trainers in being hospitable and professional ambassadors in the tourism industry
  • Training workshop on effective tourist guides

Besides, CTC is also exploring the possibility of establishing cooperation between Commonwealth members in providing training of national tourist office staff on exchange and mentoring placement programmes.

In improving understanding of non-participation in learning activities and what is needed to involve current all stakeholders to increase accessibility of learning activities and involvement of the Commonwealth communities.

CTC believes that it is through institutional capacity building that tourism can be effectively represented and managed within governments.

 

SEMINAR / WORKSHOP / CONFERENCE
CTC provides conferences and seminars throughout the year which examine topics of importance to the tourism industry throughout the Commonwealth countries.  Detailed and in-depth supply/demand outlooks for this sector are highlighted at the conferences.

The tourism industry is highly competitive because local destinations vie with other communities and national and international destinations for market share. The tourism experience is a quality-driven one, and interaction with employees of tourism-based establishments is a key determinant of quality.
