| CTC staff made 2 official trips to the United Kingdom in 2006. Details of the visits are as follows:- 26 August - 2 September 2006
The 3-man team (comprising Director General and 2 Directors) was in the English capital to brief key officials of the Commonwealth Secretariat including the Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Ransford Smith on the setting up of CTC. The highlight of the visit was the courtesy call on H.E. Rt. Hon Don McKinnon, Secretary General of the Commonwealth. The team also paid a visit to the Commonwealth Business Council and had a discussion with Dr. Mohan Kaul - its Director General & CEO. Several areas were discussed Other highlights of the visit were the meeting held with members of the Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit (CPSU) at University of London, in particularly with Mr. Alan Fyall, a reader in Tourism Management, Bournemouth University with a view of producing a Commonwealth tourism journal. The rest of the itinerary included discussions with the publishers of DK Eyewitness Travel for a possible collaboration in the production of a Commonwealth Travel Guide. The team also paid a courtesy call on the Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom. 5 to 12 November 2006 The second trip included meetings with officials from the Commonwealth Secretariat to discuss outstanding matters such as the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the appointment of the third Director, and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November 2007 in Uganda. While in the United Kingdom, the team paid courtesy calls on to the Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the High Commissioner of the Republic of the Maldives. The team was also in Bournemouth University for a follow-up discussion with the university's academicians on the publication of a tourism journal, tourism research and organising the Master Classes. |
